2001 BMW 740iL (Are they good?)?

I am very intrested in purchasing a used BMW 740iL equipped with the sport package. I am absolutely in love with this vehicle. It is very sporty yet luxurious at the same time. The only thing holding me back from purchasing one is....Well im not to sure if this would be a smart buy? I've heard many negative things about the 740iL. Aparently the reliability of this particular vehicle is below average! This is very sad for me because I do not know what to do? I have never owned a BMW just infiniti's. I have had excellent expierences with the G20, J30t, I30t, Q45t, and finally the M45. But I am tired of purchasing Japanese made vehicles and want to purchase a BMW. Can anyone who has owned a BMW tell me whether theyre expierence with a BMW was negative or positive and PLEASE let me let me know if you know of anything wrong with a 740iL. If there are I was also considering an Audi S8, MBZ S55 AMG, and the Jaguar XJR.
