700r4 will not shift itself.?

i have a 91 camaro that will work just fine in low and second but when put into drive or overdrive it won't shift it just acts like its in neutral. help please, if there's any way i can avoid having to get it replaced/ rebuilt i need to know. my only car and no spare cash
